A damaged skin barrier
Our skin's most challenging job is that of the uppermost layer, the skin barrier.
"It's a vital front-line, protecting us against the perils of the environment; UV, pollution, infection, toxic chemicals, and so on. On a more superficial note, it's the bit that we see, so it's essential from a cosmetic point of view." Says dermatologist Dr. Sam Bunting. Building up the skin's barrier will always benefit the appearance of the skin. When working correctly, the barrier maintains a good hydrated balance and is resilient yet flexible.
